Juicing Fact Sheets
Many people juice, it is a good way to get nutrients quickly in to the body. So, seeing as I am an author of a Juicing book myself (Healthy Juicing), I thought that I would do a series of handouts on various fruits and vegetables to highlight their benefits.
So, I will start with Apples, which are quite good for you. They contain certain substances which help in maintaining healthy bodies, such as phytochemicals (compounds found in plants, fruits, and vegetables that can act as anti-oxidants), they are also a rich source of dietary fibre and help to aid digestion and promote weight loss.
Eating apples helps to reduce blood cholesterol, improve bowel function, reduce risk of stroke, prostate cancer, Type II diabetes and asthma, due to the fibre and phytonutrients present in the apples.
Apples and apple juices are the best source for mineral boron which helps to promote bone growth.
They are also a good source of:
Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Pectin, Phosphorous, Potassium, Sodium, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1-2-and-6, Vitamin C, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, and Folic Acid.
Apples clean teeth and help strengthen the gums
Apples help lower cholesterol, help to detoxify the body and aid in digestion, which would to prevent constipation.Research has even linked Apples to help in reducing cancer risks, due to such as:
Phytonutrients in the skin of apples inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells by 43%.
Food containing flavonoids like those in apples may reduce risk of lung cancer as much as 50%.
Dietary phenolics such as flavonoids (found in apples) can have inhibitory effects on the developments of carcinogenic substances in the bladder, thereby reducing risk of bladder cancer, especially in smokers.
Quercetin, a flavonoid abundant in apples has been found to help prevent the growth of prostate cancer cells.
Juicing tips
Use an apple that is hard and firm, not bruised.
Use organic apples.
Ideally you would want to juice the skin as well for the nutrients contained in it, as long as they are natural organic apples.
Most commercially grown apples have a wax on their skin to make them shine. They also contain high pesticide residues. So, it would be a good idea to remove the skin if you cannot get non waxed apples, not only would you juice the wax, you would also juice the pesticides in the wax.
So, happy juicing and enjoy the benefits of using apples in some of your juicing recipes

NATIONAL VEGETARIAN MONTH in the UK
Yes, it is national vegetarian month in, so, to celebrate this, I have posted a couple of juicing recipes from my new e-book Healthy Juicing. I know that I have just grabbed a couple,, so it is kinda cheating. However, it is still National Vegetarian month, and so, they are valid.
APPLE and BEETROOT
An easy one to start off with would be to juice Apples with Beetroot.
Juice about 70-80% Apple then mix with the remainder of Beetroot. Make sure that you peel and core the apples, and remove the seeds
A very refereshing mixture. Really nice, especially on a warm day!!
Apples are Traditionally Used For:
Arthritis, Bowel Stimulator, Calming of Digestive System, Cleanse Intestines of Toxins, Digestive Stimulant, Fingernails, Gout, Hair, Indigestion, Rheumatism,Skin and Weight Loss.
Beetroot is Traditionally Used For:
Anemia, Bladder Problems, Circulatory Problems, Eye Fatigue, Kidneys, Liver,Lymphatic Circulation, Menstrual Problems, Menopause, Skin ProblemsTiredness and Weight Loss Problems

Directions
Combine all ingredients, pour into your favorite beaker, and enjoy immediately!

Christmas is Coming
Christmas is coming and so is the party season.
That means for many if not most of us, drinking, eating and visiting relatives. I exercise regularly and eat healthily, however I do love mince pies and custard, as for Christmas Pudding...... enough said.
This story will seem very similar for most, if not a vast majority of you. So, what can you do about it?
I will tell you what I do, and maybe that will give you some ideas.
First of all I accept that I will indulge a little, so I offset this period with a little bit of exercise in the morniings, about 15 minutes worth, and the same in the evening. I use Dax Moy's Power Circuit. It only takes me about 10 - 15 minutes, requires no equipment and really gets the circulation going.
Apart from the "festivities" I stick to a good healthy balanced diet. For this I use the Elimination Diet as my guide.
No Caffeine,Sugar,Proceseesd Food, Wheat Products, or Dairy. Even though I do like certain things which can be contrary to this guide, I very much limit them to the occaisional treat. That is why, at Christmas I accept that I will eat them, so I work that bit harder to offset them. In essence, moderation and exercise.
Driking water is an essential habit to form. Being hydrated will help stop you snacking all the time. Thirst is often mistaken by the body for hunger. As a rough guide, you need to drink 1 litre of water per 25kg body mass (50lb).
Breakfast is very important. Try to keep away from Carbohydrate rich breakfasts. Ensure that you eat protein with your breakfasts. I actaully like grilled Steak and eggs cooked in natural butter. Eating breakfaast will give you a good start for the day, leaving you feeling energetic, and you will be less likely to pig out later on when you are feeling hungry
Eat smaller meals more often. The body will burn more energy digesting the food, it will utilise the nutrients better and not have to store the excess. Again ensure that you include protein in every meal, such as Chicken, Salmon, Beef and Turkey (very seasonal).

One other area I am enthusiastic in, is juicing, let's face it I must be, I've just written a book on it. But, again I use the elimination diet as a guide for my juicing. There are literally hundreds of recipes out there which are really healthy and very good for you.
I've created a free Mini-Book for you so that you can feel the benefits of juicing for yourself.
Just fill in the box at the top right hand side of this page and you'll get your copy sent to you in less than 5 minutes.
I definitely intend to enjoy myself with friends and family, so, as I said I will just put that extra bit of effort to offset what I do.
Happy Christmas!
